Buddy Programme Semester 1, 2017

Pacific TAFE in association with Campus Life has started Buddy Programme from Semester 2, 2016.

Buddying/Mentoring is generally characterised by the model of a more senior or experienced person acting as a mentor to a new, more junior person, to inculcate them into the ways of the new culture to help them succeed. This helps:

  • to develop a sense of community and engagement, and
  • to enable students to maximise their academic potential
  • Providing information on University policies and procedures, or where/who to go to for advice and information;
  • Demystifying academic procedures and other study matters (i.e. how to submit assignments; how to borrow books);
  • Sharing academic survival tips and knowledge about how to seek support;
  • Engaging in social activities to get to know and meet other students;
  • Sharing knowledge of available support structures, services and networks;
  • Building the student’s self-confidence in their ability to negotiate a new and challenging environment.

Sixteen (16) Pacific TAFE student volunteers have been selected to mentor new students.

The Mentor will be rewarded with recharge cards, special priviledges such as use of tea making facilities, free laptops and barbeque facilities at the campus life office.

Workplace Attachment

Pacific TAFE has a requirement for students enrolled in some of its programmes to undertake assessed workplace attachment prior to graduation to prepare work ready graduates.

USPs Pacific TAFE works closely with Industry Partners and makes arrangement for students to complete their Workplace Attachment requirements of the programme. Partnership Agreement is also signed with the industries to provide insurance cover for students who are on Workplace Attachment.

Students from Diploma in Office Management, Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma of Human Resource Management, Diploma in Accounting, Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and Certificate IV in Hospitality Operations Programme will be on Workplace Attachment in Semester 1, 2017.
