The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) has received another international accreditation by the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE) for its Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery programme.
This programme equips graduates with food preparation skills and technical knowledge to enable them to work independently in a commercial kitchen environment.
This is the third international accreditation that Pacific TAFE has received from THE-ICE and it also adds to the seven (7) international validations of quality programmes that Pacific TAFE has achieved so far.
In a letter to Mr Lal, Pacific TAFE Director, Ms Pauline Tang, the Chief Executive Officer of THE-ICE said that Chairs of THE-ICE Board and THE-ICE Assessment Panel, after reviewing the Application Assessment & Final Report by the Programme Auditor, Dr Thomas Bauer and his recommendation on Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, unanimously agreed that it meets THE-ICE Standards of Excellence.
“As you are well aware, full membership of THE-ICE carries with it a range of value-added benefits including use of THE-ICE accreditation logo to showcase your programme quality,” Ms Tang stated.
Dr Bauer has previously inspected the kitchen facilities at Pacific TAFE and is satisfied that they are very much suitable for the delivery of the Certificate IV programme and the delivery meets all areas of excellence.
One of the graduates has started his own business and this fits in with USP’s pursuit from good to an excellent and in particular, helping to produce graduates with entrepreneurial skills that become job creators and not job seekers.
Professor Richard Coll, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Learning, Teaching and Student Services expressed his delight at the accreditation.
“This is an excellent achievement in fast growing area of Pacific TAFE’s development. The graduates from Pacific TAFE have the assurance of international recognition and the confidence that their qualifications are one of the best in the world, Professor Coll said.
Mr Hasmukh Lal, Director, Pacific TAFE said that international accreditations are very reassuring to students and stakeholders that Pacific TAFE offers programmes of international quality.
“I would like to sincerely thank Pasirio Kitione, Coordinator-Tourism & Hospitality programmes for his leadership and the teaching staff of the programme in ensuring standards were demonstrably met,” Mr Lal said.
His commendation also went to Quality & Accreditation Unit of Pacific TAFE for their coordinating role in this achievement.
Pacific TAFE will continue to seek international accreditations of most of its programmes for the benefits of Pacific citizens and contribute towards USP’s overall commitment towards excellence.
