Australia Aid (AusAID) Programme

1.         Australia-USP Partnership Framework 

The implementation of the Australia-USP Partnership Framework, that covers the three years 2010-2012, continues to entail close and ongoing consultation.This partnership, which is the first that Australia has signed with a Pacific Regional organization, commits both parties to ongoing and substantive dialogue and includes incentives for achievement.  Australia is fully funding Priority Areas 2 and 3 of the Strategic Plan, in addition to providing core budget and project funding.

2.    The Government of Australia supports, by means of separate funding agreements, several other projects and initiatives at the University.  This includes:

 (i) FJD2.10m for the second year Future Climate Leaders’ Program, the Pacific Land Program Scholarships (FJD1.4m);

(ii) The Pacific Agribusiness Research for Development Initiative (FJD 2.16m) [through the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR)];

(iii) The support for the Future Challenges Ancient Solutions international conference (FJD 53,267);

(iv) The Pacific Adaptation Strategy Assistance Program (FJD 206,394); and

(v) The continuation of the project titled “Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in Rural Communities of Fiji” (FJD 652,319).

3.   Pacific Islands Centre for Public Administration (PICPA) - Provide support of AUD 24 million over 4 years. 

4.     Australia annually sponsors over 200 students through its Australian Regional Development Scholarships (ARDS). USP manage those students at Laucala, Emalus, and Alafua campuses.
